This morning it’s a hot air ballooning ride with Namib Sky Balloon Safaris over Sossusvlei and the surrounding area. There are 14 people in the 16 person capacity basket, and only one balloon in the sky this morning. Flying conditions are excellent, with enough of a gentle breeze to move the basket in a consistent direction.
It’s overcast this morning, so the light isn’t great over the dunes, however the flight does bring a different perspective on the fairy circles. On the ground they appear to be circles with a single ring of grass – from the air there are circles with double rings of grass, and others are overlapping.
The light improves as we start to descend, so there is some decent light on the dunes.
The breakfast spread for 14 in front of the dunes is impressive, with 50% of the passengers from Germany, and the remainder a mix of British, American and a token Australian.
By the afternoon, the sky has cleared, and there is some excellent light on the dunes for the evening drive. Still no aardvark, although we did see a black-breasted snake eagle perched on the top of a tree.
