Three days of wandering around Paris, day, twilight and night….
Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris
The ‘grilles’ or iron railings at the Jardin du Luxembourg are usually hosting a photography exhibition. This time is no different, although perhaps not to everyone’s taste – it’s all the creepy crawlies from praying mantis, carnivorous plants, reptiles and insects. It’s a rainy day in Paris, so the gardens are deserted, as is the street along the railings, aside from some hardy joggers.
Comedie Francaise
It looks like they have finally found a buyer for the ‘temporary’ Comedie Francaise theatre, which has been standing empty in the Palais Royale since the renovations for the historic permanent theatre were completed a couple of years ago. According to the sign, it has been dismantled and is on its way to Geneva.
Dog and Cat grooming
I’ve also stumbled across 4 specialist stores to cater for the fashion and gourmet needs of the typical Parisian dog and cat. La Niche is part of the BHV department store, and is the source of the two latest red waterproof and fleece lined coats for Monsieur Charlie le Chien and Monsieur Chester le Chien.
Around the corner is Moustaches, which also sells dog attire, cat beds, and premium dog and cat food. On the Rive Droit, I found Hot Dog Chic in Rue Vavin, and Au Paradis Canin. The latter two offer dog grooming – basically dollar for dollar with Australia – an $85 clip is $85 Euros.
Jardin des Plantes
The Jardin des Plantes is also good for photography exhibitions on their iron railings. At the moment it is Steeve Iuncker’s curated exhibition called Villes Extremes – or Extreme Cities, featuring Siberia, Ahwaz in Iran, and Tokyo.
The Seine by Night
It’s dark at this time of year it’s dark at 6pm, so perfect timing to spend on some twilight and night photograph along the river.
More Christmas Decorations
My last night in Paris is a Sunday, which makes it a good night to hike from the George V metro station, back to the Marais, along Rue Faubourg-St Honore. Most of the shops are closed, and there are few people around, which makes photographing the decorations a lot easier.

Hi Chris,
Hope you had safe trip home. I have been watching your blog and the photos are marvellous. You certainly have a talent for taking just the right shot. The ones of Paris windows are terrific- they really do decorate beautifully there.
We had a good trip to Melb. and the weather was good to us.
Hope Charlie & Chester turn heads in their new coats when out walking.
