Not an auspicious start to this trip. After yesterday’s breakdown of the baggage conveyor belt system at the Qantas terminal in Melbourne airport, it’s now Monday morning with no bags. Go shopping for the basics in Pitt Street in Sydney. At least the bags aren’t lost, just stuck waiting to be moved from Melbourne to Sydney.
No bags by Monday afternoon. It has now been 24 hours so I call Qantas to get a letter to support an insurance claim for the things I’ve had to buy. Told by harried but pleasant baggage services that it might take them 2 weeks to email the letter.
My bag is in the room at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth when I return around 11pm. Clean clothes, whoo hoo!
I have almost convinced myself to buy a Fujifilm x100 as a compact camera to use when the DSLRs are too big – ie for street photography. I can’t quite get there when I find I can buy a Canon G12 and and an underwater housing for it for less than the price of the x100. The dealer doesn’t have the underwater housing in stock, so arranges for it to be delivered on Wednesday before I depart for Santiago, Chile.
