Close to perfect sailing conditions in the South Atlantic Ocean on the National Geographic Explorer, which doesn’t happen often! Clear blue skies, 12 degrees celsius and plenty of wildlife in the water and in the area. Today we have seen Southern Right Whales, black-browed albatrosses, dolphins, royal and wandering albatrosses, seals, rockhopper penguins and many varieties of petrels and prions.
Highlight of the day was a morning sighting of a Southern Right Whale, doing the whale equivalent of rolling on its back and scratching its stomach, exposing the white patches of the sides of its abdomen. It looks more like an orca in this position than it does a Southern Right Whale!
Next planned stop is Steeple Jason Island in the West Falklands to visit a massive black-browed albatross colony.
