Tswalu Kalahari to Cape Town

It’s time to leave The Malori at Tswalu Kalahari this morning, but not before a photo of the sun rising over the Korannaberg Mountains. Today’s destination is Cape Town, however there are a few hours left to explore Tswalu Kalahari.

We visit the meerkat colony again on the way back to The Motse. This morning it warms up quickly, and the 5 tiny meerkat kits emerge into the sunlight. This is their first ‘official’ public appearance, and all of the colony seem to be engaged in making sure that they stay safe. Whilst the meerkats are becoming habituated to human presence, the slightest movement still has them fleeing to the safety of their tunnel system.

It’s also time to say goodbye to Tswalu after 5 nights, and to head to Cape Town. Waiting at the airstrip is another Pilatus PC12 in red livery, for the flight to Cape Town. With only three passengers (a young NZ/South African couple who had been visiting family), it’s a comfortable flight. Very smooth flying conditions into Cape Town airport means I don’t need to contemplate throwing up into my handbag.

“Home” for the next three nights is the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, in Constantia. Nearby are the Kirstenbosch Gardens, and some very swish residences and embassies. It’s been a long day, so I leave exploring the hotel’s 9 acres of gardens until tomorrow.
